Lighthouse Keeper's Dustpan
Project: Brass Lighthouse Keeper's Dustpan
Date: Completed December 2020
Process: The dustpan was inspired by its 19th century examples. Originally made in Staten Island for the United States Lighthouse Service, they were issued to lighthouses across the country. Because of the harshness of the saltwater environment, they were durably made from solid brass to prevent corrosion and breakage.
We hand cut and forge these in my studio from Naval brass (alloy 464) so it is lead free, and will acquire a pleasant patina, should you decide not to keep it polished. The dustpan has a satin finish, and are lightly waxed prior to shipping. It measures 10 inches wide by 13 inches long, with handle.
